Reporting to the Human Resources Director – Canada, the Payroll Manager will be responsible for overseeing the entire payroll process for Barry Callebaut Canada. This person will ensure that all payments to employees are accurate and comply with collective agreements, individual employment contracts, and all applicable legislation. Barry Callebaut Canada currently employs 550 people.

Role and scope of responsibilities

  • Oversee payroll calculations and verifications;
  • Generate payroll-related reports for analysis, information, or statistics;
  • Ensure data accuracy and compliance with internal standards and external regulations;
  • Administer applicable payroll laws (Employment Insurance, QPP, benefits, labor standards, ROEs, RRSPs, child support, union dues, etc.);
  • Develop and optimize systems, processes, and procedures related to payroll operations;
  • Manage remittances to third parties (government, insurance providers, RRSP plans, unions, etc.);
  • Administer taxable benefits (vehicle allowances, group insurance, disability, RRSPs, and others);
  • Process retroactive payments and other special payroll transactions;
  • Respond to payroll-related inquiries from employees, managers, and external organizations;
  • Create and update employee payroll records;
  • Prepare Records of Employment (ROEs), Relevé 1 and T4 slips for tax purposes;
  • Manage system interfaces between payroll and HR information systems;
  • Oversee all year-end payroll activities;
  • Contribute to improvement and digital transformation initiatives;
  • Support food safety by adopting behaviors that meet defined compliance requirements.

Requirements

  • College diploma in accounting or business administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a Payroll Manager in a large company, including a unionized workforce;
  • Experience processing payroll for employees in both Quebec and Ontario;
  • Strong proficiency in both English and French;
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel;
  • Proficiency in ADP Workforce Now, ADP Time and Attendance, and SuccessFactors systems;
  • Experience managing system interfaces;
  • Thorough understanding of payroll legislation and compliance requirements;
  • Dynamic, team-oriented, and solution-focused;
  • Strong change management and communication skills;
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and discreet (high level of confidentiality required).
