Hera Human Resources, headhunters in Montreal, led this recruitment mandate for a leading manufacturing company in the food sector, with more than 500 employees. The master payroll position reported to the Director of Human Resources and encompassed full responsibility for the payroll process for all of the company’s Canadian operations.

Job Responsibilities

The incumbent was responsible for managing the entire payroll cycle for all staff, including unionized and non-unionized employees. Key responsibilities included payroll processing and verification, benefits management, government remittances, and the production of records of employment and annual tax returns. The position also required ensuring compliance with provincial and federal labor laws and tax regulations.

Coordination with the human resources department for the management of employee files, the follow-up of leave, absences and group insurance plans was also part of the mandate. The master payroll played a critical role in optimizing payroll processes and implementing systemic improvements.

Qualifications sought

The ideal candidate would hold a certification from the National Payroll Institute (INP) or equivalent training, along with substantial payroll processing experience in a unionized manufacturing environment. Proficiency in payroll software, in-depth knowledge of labor laws and tax standards, as well as payroll management skills completed the profile sought for this position.
