Financial Controller
Description
The Controller is responsible for all areas related to financial reporting within an organization composed of several companies. The Chief Financial Officer is responsible for developing and updating accounting policies, practices and procedures to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of the financial statements. The Controller oversees teams and activities related to accounts payable, credit/collection and cost accounting. He faces tight deadlines and performs a multitude of accounting activities, including financial reporting, year-end audit preparation, and supporting budgeting and forecasting activities.
Responsibilities
- Oversees day-to-day accounting activities
- Ensures the closure of month-end procedures within the set deadlines.
- Prepares and presents accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Prepares the financial information package which is communicated to the management group on a monthly basis.
- Manages consolidated financial statements and intercompany transactions within the corporate structure
- Develops and manages annual budgets and financial forecasts, monitoring performance against set financial objectives.
- Establishes and maintains standard costs for various manufacturing processes and products and supervises the cost accounting team.
- Using analytical tools, conducts in-depth financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and risks, and makes recommendations for improvement.
- Identifies and implements process improvements to increase the efficiency of financial operations.
- Ensures compliance with all accounting standards, tax regulations and legal requirements. Manages all audits, both internal and external, as well as the preparation of the corporate income tax return.
- Ensures that GST/QST, government sales taxes, and income tax instalments are reported and paid on time.
- Ensures the completeness and accuracy of all financial performance indicators (KPIs).
- Strengthens internal control processes in response to changes in the organization.
- Supports the CFO on special projects and work process improvements.
- Trains new and existing staff as needed.
- Addresses human resources related emissions, including staff professional development.
- Participates in special financial projects as needed, providing financial expertise and knowledge.

Experience and training
- BA/BS in Commerce with a specialization in Accounting, CPA required
- Minimum 5-6 years of relevant experience, preferably in the manufacturing or construction sector
- Understanding of Cost Accounting
- Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems
- Experience with Microsoft Business Central and PowerBI an asset.
