Chemistry Laboratory Supervisor – Food Industry

Hera Human Resources, a recruitment firm in Montreal, was looking for a chemistry laboratory supervisor for a company in the agri-food sector with facilities in Saint-Hyacinthe and Saint-Albans. This key position reported to the Director of Quality Assurance and involved the complete management of the physico-chemical quality control of raw materials, products in process and finished products.

Job Responsibilities

The incumbent supervised a team of fourteen unionized chemistry technicians in a BRC-certified environment where food quality standards were rigorously maintained. Key responsibilities included supervising the analytical laboratory, approving and releasing finished products, issuing certificates of analysis, and following up on non-conformities. The role also required providing technical support to production and industrial customers.

Other tasks included verifying the shelf life of raw materials, managing early release requests, participating in internal and external audits, as well as monitoring the laboratory’s performance indicators. The supervisor also contributed to the continuous improvement of analytical methods and operational procedures.

Qualifications

The candidate sought would hold a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biochemistry or a related discipline, complemented by significant experience in laboratory management in the food or chemical sector. In-depth knowledge of BRC standards, good laboratory practices and food safety regulations was essential. Leadership, problem-solving and operational management skills completed the ideal profile.
