Under the supervision of the Director of Quality Assurance, the incumbent will be responsible for physicochemical quality control of raw materials, in-process products, finished products, and technical support to production for the plants located in Saint-Hyacinthe and St. Albans.

Overseeing a team of 14 unionized chemistry technicians, the individual will work in an environment where high food quality standards (BRC) are implemented and must be maintained.

Proactive in problem-solving, the supervisor will provide technical support to production and industrial clients.

Scope of responsibilities

  • Supervise analytical and chemistry lab technicians;
  • Approve finished products and assign and issue certificates of analysis for finished goods;
  • Issue and follow up on non-conformities related to raw materials, finished products, and product holds;
  • Ensure the timely release of raw materials and finished products;
  • Approve and follow up on early release requests;
  • Verify the shelf life of raw materials upon receipt;
  • Ensure the compliance of cocoa beans used in production;
  • Purchase and ensure proper functioning of lab equipment and materials, in line with budget constraints;
  • Review and maintain sampling manuals and physicochemical analysis methods;
  • Review and maintain the quality plan for sampling and analysis;
  • Develop new physicochemical testing methods when needed;
  • Support and contribute to the implementation of all necessary actions to meet required quality standards;
  • Assist production and R&D in the development of new items and in problem resolution;
  • Generate and develop reports and performance indicators;
  • Conduct internal system audits and audits on Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP);
  • Ensure the lab meets all BRC certification requirements;
  • Act as a backup for the Director of Quality Assurance – Canada, when required;
  • Contribute to product safety by demonstrating behaviors aligned with defined requirements.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science & Technology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or a related field;
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the food industry;
  • Experience managing personnel in a unionized environment;
  • Experience with quality management systems (BRC, HACCP, GMP, GLP);
  • Bilingual (French and English);
  • Proficient in Word and Excel;
  • Familiarity with SAP software is an asset.
