Description

Under the direction of the Director of Quality Assurance, the Food Safety Coordinator is responsible for coordinating, implementing, and executing food safety programs at the Saint-Hyacinthe plant.

This includes the development and validation of the HACCP plan, environmental monitoring, sanitation procedures, and all initiatives related to food safety and GFSI certifications. The incumbent also acts as the backup to the Director of Quality Assurance.

Scope of responsibilities

  • Provide scientific and technical support related to food safety and microbiological control to ensure product safety and quality through risk assessment, program development, and training;
  • Coordinate, plan, and implement quality, food safety, and sanitation programs within the plant;
  • Identify and communicate site food safety risks, provide actionable advice, and integrate findings into current food safety programs;
  • Conduct validation studies of critical control points (CCPs) and assess the validity of supporting data;
  • Lead risk assessments to define critical limits for key processes and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to update and maintain procedures;
  • Coordinate the internal audit program;
  • Act as a liaison with external parties to ensure relevant information and emerging issues are addressed and integrated into food safety programs;
  • Lead and coach the management team to ensure food safety and quality compliance. The role has the authority to halt operations if significant food safety risks are identified;
  • Responsible for HACCP and food safety training at the Saint-Hyacinthe plant to ensure proper implementation and compliance with required programs;
  • Successfully lead external audits and implement food safety certification standards;
  • Support and participate in the implementation of all necessary measures to meet required and mandatory quality standards;
  • Support all quality-related activities and act as the primary backup for the Director of Quality Assurance;
  • Conduct supplier audits when necessary;
  • Contribute to product safety by adopting behaviors aligned with defined food safety standards.

Profile

  • In-depth knowledge of ISO, HACCP, and GFSI (FSSC22000) requirements and solid technical expertise in food safety;
  • Ability to perform under pressure, show initiative, actively listen to both internal and external stakeholders, and take full ownership of assigned responsibilities;
  • Highly organized and proactive.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Safety, Microbiology, Food Science, or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in food safety or quality roles, including auditing experience within the food industry;
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing HACCP certification programs;
  • Strong technical knowledge in food quality and safety is essential;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, strong analytical and leadership skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with teams;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio;
  • Familiarity with HACCP systems, GMPs, environmental monitoring programs, and sanitary design of equipment and facilities;
  • Strong report-writing and presentation skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Proven ability to manage and complete projects on time;
  • Fully bilingual (French and English);
  • Visionary thinker focused on results;
  • Detail-oriented, diplomatic, and rigorous;
  • Experience in food manufacturing is required;
  • Strong team spirit;
  • Ability to work under pressure with tight deadlines;
  • Creativity and innovation;
  • Proven success in change management and continuous improvement. This position may require approximately 5% travel and occasional work beyond regular hours.
