The Quality Assurance Director leads the implementation of best-in-class Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards at the company’s second-largest production site.

They will ensure compliance with quality programs, regional/global strategic initiatives, and guarantee that industry standards for food safety systems are effectively implemented and maintained.

The Director will lead programs to support other facilities in the region. They will also provide direct support to key clients and handle product-specific complaints.

Scope and responsibilities

• Provide strong and visible quality leadership within the plant;
• Rely on the quality team and plant personnel to achieve site quality objectives and expectations;
• Collaborate with plant leadership and staff to foster a top-tier food safety and quality culture and provide QA/Food Safety technical support to operations;
• Oversee the implementation and sustainability of QMS and food safety systems within the facility;
• Plan, manage, organize, and control all quality assurance activities while supporting the team in daily issue resolution; provide the plant leadership with recommendations regarding food safety incidents;
• Lead investigations into product incidents and customer complaints to ensure timely and accurate root cause analyses and implement verified corrective and preventive actions (CAPA); manage product disposal and ensure clear client or sales responses;
• Implement a robust internal audit program and proactively address compliance gaps with corporate policies, GFSI standards, and regulatory requirements; take necessary steps to meet mandatory food safety and quality standards;
• Prepare and lead plant readiness for regulatory, GFSI, and key customer audits; guide the team through external inspections, including certification bodies (kosher, halal, organic, etc.);
• Manage the sensory evaluation program (training and application) for the Saint-Hyacinthe plant;
• Collaborate with R&D, production, and sales to define food safety and quality requirements for new or transferred products;
• Ensure that new equipment commissioning and plant expansion projects address EMP, sanitary design, change management, and other QA/Food Safety concerns;
• Monitor, review, and report all relevant data to present Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to stakeholders;
• Oversee quality assurance budgets and financial quality metrics.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Food Science, or Engineering (or equivalent);
• 5 to 10 years of experience as a Quality Assurance Director;
• Experience in large-scale food manufacturing facilities;
• Training in Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standards—preferably FSSC22000—and in-depth knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, environmental pathogen monitoring, sanitary equipment/facility design, and FSMA is an asset;
• Proficient in computer software including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; SAP knowledge is a plus;
• Visionary mindset with the ability to develop and execute a strategic vision;
• Proven leadership, managerial courage, and ability to build and lead effective teams;
• Strong decision-making skills aligned with strategic business objectives;
• Bilingual in English and French;
• Excellent time management and prioritization skills; able to multitask and perform under pressure and tight deadlines.
