Our client, a Canadian leader in real estate, has more than 4,000 employees who are passionate about real estate and work day in and day out to provide the best service and quality of life to our clients. The team manages more than 210 properties located in Quebec, Ontario, Nova Scotia and recently in the United States. In order to support its strong growth, we are currently looking for a Financial Controller for the private seniors’ residence sector in Quebec. JOB DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Vice-President of Finance, the Controller will be in charge of the Finance Department of the Seniors’ Residences sector and its team of 9 people. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating the activities of his or her unit to ensure the timely and quality delivery of financial reports. He will exercise an operational role within his team and an advisory role to the sector’s operations team in order to maintain sound financial management. Among his main duties, the Monitor will review financial information and review the financial performance of the properties managed by the management company. In addition, the incumbent will coordinate the preparation of forecast data as part of the annual budget process and provide assistance in the execution of internal controls.
The incumbent must be an organized individual with proven ability to multitask, solve problems and prioritize workloads on an autonomous basis. He or she will have to analyze several files simultaneously with the same quality of interpretation and rendering, while respecting tight deadlines. The person will be responsible for the reliability and accuracy of all accounting information for each of the properties under his or her management. GENERAL ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze variances in capital, operational and cash budgets on a monthly basis
  • Coordinate annual external audits
  • Coordinate treasury operations
  • Lead the annual budget process
  • Lead the team’s work to ensure the production of monthly financial reports
  • Participate in various special projects, such as the integration of new properties
  • Collect the financial information necessary for sound management
  • Respond to client requests, both internal and external, and attend client meetings
  • Review, analyze and approve monthly financial statements (approval of journal entries, review of balance sheet items and variance analysis of results)
